In the evening, enjoy a traditional Nepali welcome dinner, meet your climbing leader, and receive a briefing about the upcoming Baruntse expedition.
- 2
Kathmandu Expedition Preparation & Sightseeing
Today is dedicated to expedition preparation and cultural exploration. In the morning, permits and logistics for the Baruntse climb are finalized. Later, a guided tour takes you to Swayambhunath Stupa (Monkey Temple), Boudhanath Stupa, and Pashupatinath Temple, UNESCO World Heritage Sites that blend spirituality with history. The day ends with gear checks to ensure every detail is ready for your Himalayan journey.
- 3
Flight to Lukla and Trek to Chutanga
An early flight takes you into the heart of the Khumbu region. The short but thrilling landing at Lukla sets the tone for adventure. From here, a gentle trek begins, winding through rhododendron forests and Sherpa villages. By afternoon, you reach Chutanga, your first stop on the trail.
- 4
Trek from Chutanga to Thuli Kharka via Zatra La Pass
Today you cross your first high pass, Zatra La (4,610 m). The trail is steep, climbing through alpine meadows with panoramic views of the Dudh Koshi Valley below. Descending slightly, you reach Thuli Kharka, a high pasture surrounded by peaks.
- 5
Trek To Kothe from Thuli Kharka
The trail descends through lush rhododendron and pine forests, alive with birdsong. Following the Hinku River upstream, you arrive in Kothe, a small settlement known for its yak pastures. The oxygen-rich air feels refreshing after days of altitude.
- 6
From Kothe, Ascend to Thangnak
Following the Hinku Valley, you trek alongside the roaring river. The landscape becomes more alpine, with glaciers visible in the distance. Arriving at Thangnak, you camp beneath the majestic walls of Kusum Kanguru.
- 7
Ascending to Khare
Today’s trek climbs steadily into higher terrain, following rocky moraines and glacial rivers. The views of Mera Peak dominate the skyline, preparing you for the altitude of Baruntse. By afternoon, you reach Khare, a popular acclimatization stop and staging point for Mera Peak climbs.
- 8
Acclimatization Day at Khare
A rest and acclimatization day in Khare. Short hikes to surrounding ridges help your body adapt to the thinner air. Sherpas lead technical training sessions, reviewing rope techniques, crampon walking, and ice axe use. This day is crucial before advancing toward Baruntse Base Camp.
- 9
Trek from Khare to Mera La and Continue to Seto Pokhari
Crossing the Mera La Pass (5,415 m), the trail opens into a vast high-altitude valley. The scenery is breathtaking, with frozen lakes and snowy ridges reflecting the Himalayan light. The camp is set at Seto Pokhari, “the white lake,” surrounded by snowy wilderness.
- 10
Hike to Baruntse Base Camp
The trail continues through remote, rugged terrain until you reach Baruntse Base Camp (5,400 m), set on a moraine below the icy walls of Baruntse. Tents are pitched, dining facilities established, and life at base camp begins. This will be home for several weeks during the climb.
- 11
Base Camp Rest, Puja & Training
Days are spent organizing loads, resting, and participating in the Puja ceremony, a traditional Sherpa blessing for safe climbing. Training sessions focus on rope work, glacier travel, and safety protocols. The team bonds while preparing mentally and physically for the climb.
- 12
Climbing Period : Baruntse Summit
The climbing route follows the southeast ridge of Baruntse, a technical line with steep snow and ice sections: ● Camp I (6,150 m): Established after a steep climb above Base Camp. ● Camp II (6,400 m): Positioned on icy ridges after navigating crevasses. ● Summit Camp (6,700 m): Launch point for the summit push. Summit Day begins before midnight. You ascend steep snow slopes and climb fixed ropes over icy walls. After 8–10 hours, you stand atop Baruntse (7,129 m), surrounded by breathtaking views of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and Kanchenjunga. After celebrations, you descend safely to lower camps.
- 13
Reserve / Contingency Day
A spare day is included for weather delays or acclimatization needs.
- 14
Trek Baruntse Base Camp → Seto Pokhari
After clearing camp, you trek back to Seto Pokhari. The descent feels easier, and oxygen-rich air helps your body recover.
- 15
Trek from Seto Pokhari to Khare
Retracing your steps, you trek back to Khare, surrounded by views of Mera Peak. The return feels relaxed, with familiar trails and warmer air.
- 16
Descend Back to Kothe
Descend steeply into the lower Hinku Valley, following forests and riverbanks. Arriving in Kothe, the lower altitude feels refreshing, and you celebrate with your Sherpa team.
- 17
Trek back to Thuli Kharka from Kothe
Climb back toward Thuli Kharka, crossing alpine ridges with last views of the Baruntse region.
- 18
Trek to Lukla via Zatra La Pass
Cross Zatra La Pass once more, descending into forests and villages as you complete the trek. By evening, you arrive in Lukla, where the expedition trail concludes.
- 19
