Detailed itinerary

  1. 1

    Drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi

An early morning departure takes you on a scenic drive to the Langtang region. The road winds north through Trisuli Bazaar and Dhunche , following river valleys and climbing through terraced hillsides with glimpses of snow-capped peaks. The journey passes through diverse landscapes, from subtropical vegetation to pine forests, with the drama of the Himalayas building as you approach the trailhead. You arrive at Syabrubesi (1,400 m) , a small town at the confluence of the Langtang and Bhote Koshi rivers, the gateway to both Langtang Valley and the historic trade route to Tibet. Overnight at a guesthouse.

  2. 2

Trek from Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel

Your trek begins as you follow the Langtang Khola upstream into the heart of Langtang National Park. The trail climbs through beautiful forests of oak, rhododendron, and bamboo, crossing the river on suspension bridges and passing small waterfalls. Keep an eye out for langur monkeys, red pandas (rare), and diverse birdlife in the dense forest canopy. The path is well-maintained, with occasional clearings offering views of the surrounding ridges. You arrive at Lama Hotel (2,470 m) , a cluster of lodges in a forest clearing that takes its name from the Buddhist lamas who once traveled this route. Overnight at a guesthouse.

  3. 3

Trek from Lama Hotel to Langtang Village

The trail continues climbing through increasingly spectacular terrain. The forest gradually thins as you gain altitude, opening to alpine meadows with panoramic views of the surrounding peaks. You pass through several small settlements, observing the traditional Tamang way of life. Langtang Village (3,430 m) was tragically destroyed by an earthquake-triggered avalanche in 2015, but has been rebuilt with remarkable resilience by its surviving residents. The new village stands as a testament to the strength of the Tamang people. A memorial honors those who lost their lives. The views of Langtang Lirung (7,227 m) and the surrounding glaciated peaks are stunning. Overnight at a guesthouse.

  4. 4

Trek to Kyanjin Gompa and Hike to Kyanjin Ri

A shorter trek through alpine meadows brings you to Kyanjin Gompa (3,870 m), the heart of the upper Langtang Valley. The ancient monastery, local cheese factory, and traditional village sit in a spectacular bowl surrounded by towering peaks. After settling in, hike to Kyanjin Ri (4,772 m) for one of the finest panoramas in the region. The steep climb takes 2-3 hours, but the views from the summit are breathtaking: Langtang Lirung (7,227 m) dominates the skyline, with Dorje Lakpa, Langtang II, Kimshung , and countless other peaks stretching across the horizon. Return to Kyanjin Gompa for the night. Overnight at a guesthouse.

  5. 5

Acclimatization and Exploration Day at Kyanjin Gompa (Optional Tserko Ri Hike)

An essential acclimatization day before the high passes ahead. Options include hiking to Tserko Ri (4,984 m) , the highest viewpoint in the valley, offering even more spectacular panoramas than Kyanjin Ri (5-6 hours round trip). Alternatively, explore the upper valley toward the glacier, visit the ancient Kyanjin Gompa monastery , sample local yak cheese at the cheese factory, or simply rest and enjoy the magnificent mountain scenery. The day allows your body to adapt to the altitude before crossing Lauribina Pass. Overnight at a guesthouse.

  6. 6

Trek from Kyanjin Gompa back to Lama Hotel

Retrace your steps down the Langtang Valley, enjoying different perspectives on the peaks and villages. The descent allows you to appreciate the landscape from new angles, and you may notice details missed on the way up. The trail passes through Langtang Village and continues through the beautiful forests, with the river rushing below. The longer walking day takes you back to Lama Hotel (2,470 m) for the night. The lower altitude provides welcome relief from the high camps. Overnight at a guesthouse.

  7. 7

Trek from Lama Hotel to Thulo Syabru

Today's trek branches off the main Langtang trail toward Gosaikunda. The path crosses the Langtang Khola and climbs through beautiful forest to the village of Thulo Syabru (2,235 m), a traditional Tamang settlement perched on a ridge with stunning views of the surrounding peaks. The village offers a glimpse into authentic mountain life, with prayer flags fluttering, prayer wheels spinning, and friendly locals going about their daily activities. From here, the trail to Gosaikunda begins its long climb toward the sacred lakes. Overnight at a guesthouse.

  8. 8

Trek from Thulo Syabru to Sing Gompa

The trail climbs steadily through dense rhododendron and oak forests, with the vegetation changing as you gain altitude. During spring, the rhododendrons create spectacular displays of color. You may encounter wildlife, including Himalayan tahr, musk deer, and various pheasants. By afternoon, you reach Sing Gompa (3,330 m), a small monastery and cheese factory set in a clearing with views of Langtang Lirung and Ganesh Himal. The gompa offers a peaceful atmosphere, and you can visit the cheese factory to see (and taste) locally made yak cheese. Watch the sunset paint the peaks in shades of gold. Overnight at a guesthouse.

  9. 9

Trek to Gosaikunda Lake via Lauribina Pass

The highlight of this section! The trail climbs above the treeline into alpine terrain, passing a series of sacred lakes on the approach to Lauribina Pass (4,610 m), the highest point of the trek. Prayer flags flutter at the pass, and the views of the surrounding peaks are spectacular. From the pass, descend slightly to the sacred Gosaikunda Lake (4,380 m), one of Nepal's holiest sites. Legend says Lord Shiva created the lake by striking his trident into the mountain. The crystal-clear waters reflect the surrounding peaks, creating scenes of profound beauty. Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims consider a dip in the lake to be spiritually purifying. Overnight at a guesthouse.

  10. 10

    Trek from Gosaikunda to Ghopte

After a final visit to the sacred lake, the trail continues south toward the Helambu region. The route passes several smaller lakes, each with its own spiritual significance, before descending through alpine meadows and eventually into rhododendron forests. The landscape changes dramatically as you leave the high lake district. You arrive at Ghopte (3,530 m), a small settlement with basic but comfortable accommodation. The transition from the sacred lakes to the forested trails of Helambu has begun. Overnight at a guesthouse.

  11. 11

    Trek from Ghopte to Kutumsang

The descent continues through the beautiful Helambu region, famous for its rhododendron forests, Sherpa and Tamang villages, and terraced farmland. The trail winds through dense forest, past small settlements, and along ridges with views of the Himalayan peaks to the north. You may encounter local farmers, monks, and villagers going about their daily lives. By afternoon, you reach Kutumsang (2,470 m) ), a larger village with views across the hills toward Kathmandu Valley. The lower altitude and warmer temperatures are a welcome change. Overnight at a guesthouse.

  12. 12

    Drive from Kutumsang to Kathmandu

After breakfast, a short trek or vehicle transfer takes you to the roadhead, where transportation awaits for the drive back to Kathmandu. The road winds through the scenic hills of the Helambu and Sindhupalchok districts, passing traditional villages and terraced farmland. Upon arrival in Kathmandu , transfer to your hotel. The afternoon is free for shopping in Thamel or visiting cultural sites. In the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner celebrating your incredible journey through the Langtang Valley, sacred Gosaikunda, and beautiful Helambu. Overnight at a 3-star hotel.

  13. 13

    Final Departure from Kathmandu

After breakfast, you are transferred to Tribhuvan International Airport for your onward journey. As your plane soars over the Himalayas, you carry with you the unforgettable memories of the towering walls of Langtang Lirung, the panoramic views from Kyanjin Ri, the sacred waters of Gosaikunda, the prayer flags of Lauribina Pass, the rhododendron forests of Helambu, and the warm hospitality of the Tamang and Sherpa people .
